What is a Chiropractic Spinal Checkup?
The major goal of the checkup is to determine the cause of your health challenges and to accurately assess the complexity of your condition. In order to do this, we need to gather accurate information about your health status.
The checkup is a very unique and individualized process and it is the only way to determine if you are qualified for an adjustment.
1. Consultation and History:
Our doctors will ask you very specific and detailed questions about the nature of your health concerns and challenges. We will explore past injuries, stresses, and traumas that may be affecting your health or complicating your case. Medications and lifestyle issues may be discussed as well.
2. The Examination:
The goal of the spinal examination is to determine the cause of your problem.
Posture is a window to your spine. Your Doctor of Chiropractic will conduct a detailed posture assessment. Posture is a very important indicator of spinal health and overall vitality.
Computerized Range of Motion Analysis:
Your Doctor of Chiropractic will conduct an assessment of the range of motion of your spine. Imbalance in the motion of your spinal joints can indicate spine problems and nerve interference.
Your Doctor of Chiropractic will feel and examine every spinal joint to determine the alignment and movement characteristics.
We willmeasure your weight distribution on either side of your body. If your spine is balanced and healthy you will have equal weight distribution.
We will take a photo of your posture from the front and the side, so we can measure any postural abnormalities. We will then show you how this correlates with your other findings.
Depending on your case we may also conduct:
- Neurological tests
- Orthopedic tests
- Muscle strength
- Lung capacity
- Blood pressure
- Weight distribution
In many cases, spinal x-rays are critical in determining the most accurate, safe and effective way of approaching your case. The only way to determine if x-rays are necessary for your case is to go through the checkup. At the end of the checkup, your Doctor of Chiropractic will advise you on the need for spinal x-rays. If x-rays are required for your case, it is very important to have them taken as soon as possible.
What Happens Next?
After the comprehensive checkup, we will schedule a Report of Findings for you. The report of findings is another very unique appointment where our Doctors of Chiropractic will explain to you the significance of the findings from your examination, if we can accept your case, and explain to you our best recommendations for care.
